Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I want to visit the group. Who should I contact?

A: Send an email to the group email address “quit AT tuwien DOT ac DOT at” or get in touch with us using the form on the following subpage.

Q: I have sent an email to the group email address but have not received a response yet. Should I send another message and if so when?

A:  We try to answer all emails in due time but sometimes many messages come in each day and it takes some time respond. Please be patient and give us two weeks to respond before contacting us again.

Q: I am looking for a PhD/Postdoc position. Where/how can I apply to the group?

A:  We currently have no funding available for new PhD or Postdoc positions. If new funding becomes available, we will announce open positions in the appropriate section of our group website.

In the meantime you are welcome to send your CV/application to the group email address and we will keep your application in evidence. However, due to the large number of applications we receive we often cannot reply individually to each application.

For those interested in PhD positions, also check for open calls at the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ) at https://vcq.quantum.at/phd-program/

Q: I want to do a Masters or Undergraduate research project in the group?

A:  This is in principle possible but depends on the work load/previous commitments of the group members who can act as supervisors for such projects. The best thing to do would be to write an email to the group email address. If you already have ideas regarding the potential supervisor, topic and rough timeframe for your project, please indicate this in the message.

Q: I want to apply for a grant/fellowship within the group. Is this possible? Who should I contact?

A: Short answer, it depends. Unfortunately we cannot support external applications for stand-alone research projects (FWF Stand-Alone, FWF Elise Richter, etc.).

With regards to incoming personal fellowships that require a specific person as host/mentor (e.g., Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, FWF Esprit, etc.), we have limited capacity to support such applications, if you are interested in applying for such a fellowship with one of us, please identify a suitable senior researcher in the group and CC them when contacting the group email, or email them directly at their individual email address.

Q: I want to invite a group member for an invited talk at a conference, workshop, seminar, or other scientific event.

A:  We of course feel honoured to be considered for such invitations and are happy to oblige where possible. When extending such invitations please contact the respective person directly.

However, please keep in mind that the more senior people in the group often also have more responsibilities, both at work (teaching, supervision) and personally (e.g. child-care) and might be less available to travel for extended periods of time. As such, you may wish to consider another (perhaps more junior) group member, who would be equally capable of representing the group’s research at your event. By inviting them you might help to support their career while increasing your chances of getting an affirmative response. If you have a topic in mind that you would like to hear about from one of us, we are also happy to provide suggestions for suitable speakers.

Q: I want to advertise a conference, scientific event, or open position. Who should I contact?

A: Send an email to the group email address.

Q: I have a comment or question regarding a scientific publication of a group member?

A: Send an email directly to the group member and/or the first/corresponding author of the publication.

Q: I want to invite a group member to edit a special issue of Entropy?

A: Thanks, but no thanks.
