English: I am a PhD student in the group and originally from Bonn, Germany. After my undergraduate studies in physics in Germany (Strunz group - TU Dresden) and in Loughborough (UK), I moved to Vienna to focus on experimental quantum optics and quantum physics at the University of Vienna (Ursin group - IQOQI Vienna). In the lab we conducted fascinating experiments with photons that were entangled in multiple degrees of freedom independently. We used these hyperentangled photons for entanglement distillation and entanglement distribution.
In parallel to my PhD at TU Wien, I am employed as a scientist at Quantum Technology Laboratories (qtlabs) in Vienna. qtlabs is a deep-tech company that develops quantum cryptography systems to enable secure future-proof communication on a global scale. I mainly work on protocols for satellite-based implementations of quantum key distribution. It is exciting to be part of the process that translates results of fundamental research into technical solutions on an industrial level. Deutsch: Ich bin Doktorand in der Gruppe und komme ursprünglich aus Bonn, Deutschland. Nach meinem Grundstudium der Physik in Deutschland (Strunz-Gruppe - TU Dresden) und in Loughborough (UK) bin ich nach Wien gezogen, um mich auf experimentelle Quantenoptik und Quantenphysik an der Universität Wien (Ursin-Gruppe - IQOQI Wien) zu konzentrieren. Im Labor haben wir spannende Experimente mit Photonen durchgeführt, die in mehreren Freiheitsgraden unabhängig voneinander verschränkt waren. Diese hyperverschränkten Photonen haben wir zur Verschränkungsdestillation und Verschränkungsverteilung verwendet.
Parallel zu meinem Doktorat an der TU Wien bin ich als Wissenschaftler bei Quantum Technology Laboratories (qtlabs) in Wien beschäftigt. qtlabs ist ein Deep-Tech-Unternehmen, das Quantenkryptographie-Systeme entwickelt, um sichere Kommunikation zukunftsfähig auf globalem Maßstab zu ermöglichen. Ich arbeite hauptsächlich an Protokollen für satellitengestützte Implementierungen von Quantenschlüsselverteilung. Es ist spannend, Teil des Prozesses zu sein, der Ergebnisse der Grundlagenforschung in praktische technische Lösungen auf industrieller Ebene überführt.
